    My functions at Data General included;    
         
    Financial Accountant Role
   
  • Maintenance of general and supplementary ledgers within the accounting system.
   
   
  • Preparation of trial balance and adjustments relevant to closing; inventory valuations and computations of depreciation charges, accruals and prepayments. Entering of journals and running reports.
   
    Management Accountant Role    
   
  • In order to assess the amount to be charged to a client. I had to cost the project in its entirety. This included the acertainment and measurement of costs associated with the project, as well as the classification, analysis, collection and attribution of costs including overheads, based on records of work done, time spent and resources used.
   
   
  • Acted as liason with HM Customs & Excise. This role resulted in a series of meetings - and ultimately negotiations - with the VAT Inspectorate over amounts in dispute. The final payment was well below that initially estimated.
   
   
  • In regard to the above, I undertook an audit into the VAT treatment of invoices, reporting to Management as regards errors found, costs incurred and recommending changes, many of which were adopted.
   
   
  • I acted as Account Administrator of a large American business partner. This required that I liase with the partner on a regular basis, establish foreign currency payments to them, assess their progress and account for such progress. This consisted mainly of PFI projects.
